Battle Scars

These battle scars
They're not fading
They're never going to go away
Nothing is going to ever change

These battle scars
Represent the struggles in my life
A permanent tattoo, drawn with a knife
and a good example of how hard it is to fight.

These battle scars
Have story that's now known
Weight off my shoulders
I finally past these boulders

These battle scars
Have a representation
Showing I can make it
Giving the message that I fought my battle...
And won.

Class Poem for 2014.

Graduation day has become the final count down for our Wyoming Seniors and it's time to pick the favorite class poem. Right now the staff has chosen the top 3 favorite that have been submitted. I have gotten the privilege to actually get to read them and so far all I can say is that the competition is fierce. I have gotten the opportunity to ask one of the teachers that are involved in picking the poem how it is they pick the best one to represent this years class of 2014.

Poem #1- Lengthy
The poem has a lot of wording and is quite touching especially referring to the seniors. It more focuses of the representation Wyoming has on the rest of the community and how them as students can poor the "rich kids" wrong in their way of thinking by holding their heads high forgetting the drama and putting the negative aside. The only problem I would say with it is that it's very wordy and is kind of repetitive in a way with what the authors main focus is trying to get across.

Poem #2-Motivational
This poem is more on the focus of memories and throughout the years the change those seniors have been through, and the path they get to choose after they have the diploma in their hands. It's a pretty good length but in my opinion it's kinda sketchy and confusing. Don't get me wrong it has potential but kinda leave me wondering and wanting a bit more description and to stay on the main focus of graduation. It's very motivating seeing the P.O.V of a senior and their mentality of life and how they want to succeed.

Poem #3- Cute and Quirky
This poem is my favorite personally. It rhymed and pretty much summed up the high school experience. I mean others would think it's too simple and main stream a bit for someone to just think of things that rhyme dealing with school but this poem does good thinking outside the box. The author who wrote this has a good thought of rhythm and beat even to each line. I mean of course it's not 100% perfect but it does a good job in summing up the senior feeling to ending their 2014 year.

So now I ask Mrs.Smith and she answered some of my questions:

1.How many people submitted in all?

There were 3 poems

2.(if possible) Who are the authors in the top 3?

Not sure who the authors were. Mrs. Tran knows that information.

3.What's the process of picking the poem?

Poems were submitted to Ms. over the course of 3 weeks. We then took all the poems that were submitted and made copies of them and posted them around the school. We made sure to give each poem a name without an author so that students would not be swayed to pick someone just because they liked them better.  After that we gave a # to each poem and put it to a vote on a Google form.

4.How did the voting go online?

We had 1/2 the class vote.

5.Has the competition been fierce this year?

It took a lot to get students to submit poems. We received three at the end of the 3 weeks.

6.Who will be the finalist?

# 3 won the vote

7.Was it hard to pick knowing all the students has potential?

The student vote on the poems so that we are not bias as a teacher to what student wins.

8. Is their a certain rubric you follow to pick the poem?

There is no rubric. We look at all of them to make sure they are appropriate then bring the vote to the senior class.

So that was Mrs.Smith  P.O.V and I plan to maybe even go beyond and ask Mrs.Tran and her experience with the Class of 2014 poem contest.

I Need You

I need you now
Please take by the hand
Stand by in my moment of need
Take time to understand

Take my hand
And lead me from this place
Chase away my doubts and fears
Wipe the tears off my face

I cannot stand alone without you
I need your hand to hold
The warmth of your gentle touch
In my world that's grown so cold

Please be the one for me
And hold me day by day
Because with your loving touch in mine
I know we'll find the way

Quote Of The Day

Poetry Memoir

Today many author's are converting from classical or regular rhyming to poetry memoirs. It's basically telling your story through the power of poetry and a series of poems in order to tell your truthful tale of life. For example, I read a book called "Talking In The Dark" written by Billy Merrell. He covers all the topics from love, to life, to the darkness of life and down the downfalls can always be brought up. An example of his poem is:

Tattoo

When you asked if I liked it did I say No,
because I can't understand such a strange desire

to advertise in print a picture that, today you love?
Because the body is all we have? Because beauty

changes and cannot be worn forever? Did I say No,
tell you how I want to dissolve back into the earth

once I've died, have it take me back, not having revised
what I said been given? Did I push you away

because it seemed unnatural? I don't remember
what I said to you that morning as we spoke.

I knew it was a mistake, letting myself know
your skin- and later, how you wore the world,

or a favorite piece of it. I don't remember what I said, them,
but I'm glad you've shown me and glad you love

something enough to have it forever. I'm still learning to hold
something as long. To trust love, to really have it.

You gave yourself over to ink, knowing
what you wanted, and for how long

"For what it's worth

And if you find that you are not,
I hope you have strength to start it over again."

About Me

My name is Jasmine and I'm 16. I'm a passionate writer and poet. I love to write how I feel at the time and inspire along the way. I'm from Grand Rapids and my parents are Mexican decent. I have a sister who's 10 and a crazy wild dog named Buddy. I have had a long and bumpy journey through life, but stay strong and never giving up. I write my own poems, they are never taken from anyone, I write what's in my heart and soul. I range from gory to romance to the intensity of feelings at the moment. I have been threw it all from depression and anxiety. I take each day a step at a time and I write to replace the harm I take to heart. All of my poems and the poems I read are related to my situations, some will be happy others can range. I can only hope that you enjoy and connect to my pain and we can get through this journey of life together.

Quote Of The Day

"Poetry is like bread, it must be shared by everyone, the men of letter and peasants, by everyone in our vast, incredible, extraordinary family of man." ~Pablo Neruda

Inside

Bottled up inside
Are the words I never said,
The feelings that I hide,
The lines you never read

You can see it in my eyes
Read it on my face
Trapped inside are lies of the past I can't replace

With memories that linger
Won't seem to go away
Why can't I be happier?
Today's a brand new day

The yesterday's are over,
Even though the hurting is not
Nothing lasts forever, I must cherish what I've got

Don't take my love for granted,
for soon it'll be gone
All you ever wanted of love you thought you won

The hurt I'm feeling now, won't disappear over night
But someday, somehow,
Everything will turn out alright

No more wishing for the past
It wasn't meant to be
It didn't seem to last,
All I can do is set myself free
